Faust is a functional programming language for signal processing and synthesis. 
A distinctive feature of Faust is that it is not an interpreted but a compiled language. It targets high-performance real-time audio processing applications and plugins. The Faust compiler translates Faust programs into optimized C++ code for a variety of audio standards : [[Jack]], [[Alsa]], OSS, [[Ladspa]], VST, MaxMSP, Q, PD, SuperCollider, etc.
