The **Disposable SoftSynth Interface**, a "LADSPA for instruments" API from Chris Cannam, Sean Bolton, and Steve Harris. \\

Includes four example plugins:
  * karplong
  * trivial_sampler
  * trivial_synth
  * less_trivial_synth

An example of a DSSI plugin: [[http://dssi.sourceforge.net/hexter.html|Hexter]] is a software synthesizer that models the sound generation of a Yamaha DX7 synthesizer. It can easily load most DX7 patch bank files, accept patch editing commands via MIDI sys-ex messages (ALSA systems only), and recreate the sound of the DX7 with greater accuracy than any previous open-source emulation (that the author is aware of....) 

[[http://dssi.sourceforge.net/download.html#dssi-vst|Dssi-VST]] The dssi-vst package contains a wrapper plugin for Windows VSTs that enables them to be used by DSSI hosts running on Linux or similar on i386, using Wine. dssi-vst was written by Chris Cannam.
