FluidSynth is a real-time software synthesizer based on the SoundFont 2 specifications.
Features

In addition, a lot of other applications use FluidSynth, in its shared library version, for sound synthesis. Qsynth and FluidSynth-DSSI for instance both provides GUIs for fluidsynth.
