The Hardware Database

Welcome to the Linux Audio Hardware Database.

Here we seek to address one of the common concerns of all Linux musicians - what hardware to get, how well will X device be supported, if there are any device specific procedures to install, and if so, what they may be - without having those involved run from pillar to post to obtain this information.

As one may guess, it is certainly no small undertaking - do bear with us as we put this together for everyone's benefit. Any help is welcome. In particular -

Thank you!

Linux Support Rating

To have a quantifiable, definitive way to know how well a device is supported, we have the Linux Support Rating, wherein a rating of

  • 5 means a device is fully functional out of the box
  • 4 means a device is fully functional with some configuration changes and/or requires some supplementary libre software, which runs natively or with WINE.
  • 3 means a device is fully functional with some configuration changes and/or requires some supplementary proprietary software, which runs natively or with WINE
  • 2 means a device is partially functional, some features will not work
  • 1 means a device is completely unusable/confirmed unsupported
  • 0 means a device's support status is unknown
